Monongahela Rye

Well I came to this country with nothing to my name
Except a copper still and a sachel of grain
And I made my own way boys
Till that old devil Neville tried to take it all away
Turning water into whiskey like an Appalachian Christ
Sippin' on Monongahela Rye
When the tax man comes to try to steal him some
I'll swear all I have is mine
Fists was thrown, we burned a man's home
And we was justified
It matched the fire in our bellies from that old fashioned rye
And now I face the gallows pole
If you want to quell this rebellion you'd better let me go
Turning water into whiskey like an Appalachian Christ
Sippin' on Monongahela Rye
When the tax man comes to try to steal him some
I'll swear all I have is mine
Well the water here is poison
But rye whiskey is mighty bold
We didn't fight no revolution
Just to turn around and do as were told
Turning water into whiskey like an Appalachian Christ
Sippin' on Monongahela Rye
When the tax man comes to try to steal him some
I'll swear all I have is mine

First Cup of Coffee steady my shakin' hand
Second cup is just enough to get it shakin' all over again
But make no mistake my heart did race
When I met you from the start
I don't even know your name but I'd let you break my heart
I don't know just how I felt before I felt this way
But you done made this ramblin' man wanna settle down straight away
Well I don't know if I love you but I hate when we're apart
It might not be meant to be but I'd let you break my heart
I don't know just what to do with all these thoughts inside my head
But ever since the day you left I thought I'd been better off dead
I got the look I got the charm but baby I ain't too smart
I don't know why I'm such a fool I went and let you break my heart
Just when things is lookin' up you know they come back down again
So I grab a scrap of paper, pick myself up a pen
I got the blues, I'm bound to lose, but I ain't got it so hard
I got myself a brand new tune about how I let you break my heart

Feels Good To Feel Bad
02:35
|

This world if falling apart all around me
I know my history unfortunately
And the end times never end or so it seems
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
I try to fight the power but it ain't no use
And I'm getting used to always feelin' blue
I try to think of better days but they're all in the past
I keep them in my pocket like a fading photograph
I lost all that I had but it feels so good to feel so bad
I'm a lonesome man and I ain't got nothing to lose
There is a comfort in this solitude
There's a blessing in disguise
I get to know my own loniness
I get to be my own demise
I'm feeling so low down but I take comfort in this sorrow
I could try, try to get high but I'd rather whine and wallow
I try to think of better days but I must have forgot em
When I get my one big hit, it'll be rock bottom
I lost all that I had but it feels so good to feel so bad
I'm a lonesome man and I ain't got nothing to lose
I am just sucking down these creature comforts
I savor my bad behavior
This self defeat tastes so sweet, comes in all these different flavors
I accept this rejection, please deliver me from perfection
All my dreams were shattered in a mirror of self reflection
I try to think of better days but they're all far away
But I've got no expectation and that might be my saving grace
I lost all that I had but it feels so good to feel so bad
I'm a lonesome man and I ain't got nothing to lose
